Illinois State University was slammed with an ice storm two weeks ago. A lot of campus still remains covered in a thick layer of ice. Cook Hall emerges out of trees covered in snow and ice from the storm.
Tuesday afternoon, Illinois State University’s Technology Support Center sent the campus community a reminder to ignore a recent round of phishing emails.
According to the email, the phishing emails are related to “Financial Aid that appear to be from the U.S Department of Education.”
“These emails are part of a coordinated phishing attack and are not legitimate. The emails include links to a fraudulent website related to stimulus benefits,” the support center said in the email.
“This website is associated with the phishing scams seen earlier this month and in December referencing the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Do not click the link and do not enter usernames, passwords, or other personal information.”
Individuals who opened the email, clicked a link and logged in or provided personal information are encouraged to contact the Technology Support Center for assistance at 309-438-4357 or Supportcenter@ilstu.edu.
Additional action with the ISU police department might be warranted to help protect the identity of those who engaged with the emails.
