Carta: Can the Bulls be a playoff team?

First time talking about the Bulls on this blog, but it is a long time coming.

The Bulls are off to a surprising start considering their record of 22-43 last year. The Bulls are going to easily surpass their 22 wins last year as they sit at 15-18 currently mid-way through the season. The Bulls are currently in a “rebuilding” stage and it looks like it is off on the right track. Zach Lavine got his first All-Star game as a Chicago Bull and Coby White (2019 NBA draft pick out of UNC) is coming into his own on the team. They are the exciting dynamic duo that we all hoped they would be and is what is making the Bulls so exciting to watch this year.

Now to put it straight, I am not the biggest fan of professional basketball. I typically follow college basketball as there is way more parody and different mixes of teams that can compete for a championship every year.

In the NBA, there are so little of these teams that I can count them on one hand. But being a Chicagoan I like to watch the occasional Bulls game. What have I seen so far? I’ve seen a dynamic team that is ready to potentially compete for the top of the Eastern Conference in the next coming years.

The Bulls wins, from the first part of this season, mainly came from sub .500 teams with their best opponent they’ve beaten in the 17-16 Dallas Mavericks. Any team above .500, the Bulls have trouble with. Now that isn’t to say they haven’t been competitive in those games.

When watching the Denver Nuggets and Bulls match up earlier this week this week, The Bulls managed to stay in the game until the very end. They even had the lead late into the final quarter, but gave away the lead.

This is their main concern; they cannot close out games. Fix this issue and add another high caliber player, the Bulls are looking like a sure playoff team. Now this year, if everything goes above expectations in the second half of the season, they could also be a playoff team. While it is unlikely, I’ve seen less competitive teams make it as an 8th seed before
