Tuesday and Wednesday are Illinois State University's well-being days, so here are some tips to take some time for yourself during these days off from class.
Illinois State University is having two mental health days for students and faculty on Tuesday and Wednesday. These are perfect days to take time to reflect on yourself and to look out for your own well-being. Here are some mental health and self-care tips.
Exercise
Tuesday and Wednesday are the perfect opportunity to go to the gym or to work out on your own at home. It is always good to exercise and get your heart pumping. Look up some workouts on YouTube and listen to some music while you get active.
See your friends
There are no classes on the two mental health days, so it is a great chance to catch up with your friends. It is extremely beneficial to your mental health to talk with friends and to laugh and smile. You could grab coffee or a bite to eat while social distancing and wearing masks with a friend and just hang out. Friends can even meet virtually on FaceTime or Zoom to get some quality time while not physically being together.
Get some sleep
If you are feeling tired because of homework and all-day Zoom classes, or from an everyday job, then Tuesday and Wednesday are perfect days to get some rest. Do not stress on these days, just sit back and relax. You could watch a movie or take a nap and just enjoy the day off.
Make a list of what makes you happy
If you are feeling sad, frustrated or stressed out, it could be helpful to sit down and write on a piece of paper the things that make you happy in life. Whether it be family, friends, food, pets or anything else, just think about what makes you happy in your life.
Start a hobby
This is a good opportunity to take a break from homework and to start something new and fun that interests you. Whether it be playing a new sport, reading, watching movies, fishing and more, it can help take your mind off the stress and anxiety that comes with school and homework. Starting a new hobby can help you escape from your everyday activities.
Eat healthy
Your body will feel a lot better if you begin to eat a healthier diet. Go eat a healthy snack or meal and try to begin eating healthier every day. You could look up recipes online or simply go to the grocery store and buy a healthy snack that you have never tried before.
Meditate
It can be extremely difficult to meditate, but you can look up a video or tutorial on how to meditate and try it for yourself. Give it your best effort to concentrate and focus while meditating and escaping reality for a while.
