Illinois State softball pitcher Morgan Day was named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week Wednesday afternoon after he made history at the MTSU Invitational.
The award marks Day’s fifth weekly honor and fourth for her performance in the circle.
Day pitched Illinois State’s first complete-game no-hitter since 2011 as the Redbirds beat the North Dakota State Bison 2-0 in the championship. The senior pitched seven innings, striking out a season-high 16 batters and allowed one walk.
In three complete games, Day finished the invitational with a 0.68 ERA and struck out 27 batters in 20.2 innings while shutting out Middle Tennessee and NDSU. Sunday’s performance was the 12th time Day reached double-digit strikeouts in a game.
Her 93 K’s on the season rank ninth in NCAA Division I and first in the MVC by 25.
Day and the Redbirds will begin MVC play this weekend on the road against Indiana State. They will play a doubleheader at 11 am on Saturday.
