After a rough start to the series, Illinois State men’s baseball looked to split the series in the  game against Southeast Missouri over the weekend. But the Redbirds’ pitching staff could not contain the Redhawks as they lost their Sunday game 8-1 and lost the four-game series 3-1.

ISU opened the series with a strong start from ace Colton Johnson, but eventually fell in the 10th inning on a walk-off single.

Day Two of the road trip had the teams playing two seven-inning games. Thanks to plating four in the third inning, the Redhawks were able to win the first game 5-1.

ISU bounced back in game two of the double header with a strong offensive showing. The Redbirds exploded for a 13-1 win. Tyson Hayes capped off the first inning scoring with a two-run home run that put ISU up 5-0.

ISU picked up runs in the second and third before exploding for a six-run in the fifth inning. Jordan Libman launched a three-run home run during the Redbirds strong fifth inning.

Despite the strong offensive showing in game three, ISU could not bounce back for a series split in the final game. Joe Butler’s solo home run in the sixth inning was unable to fend off SEMO as they posted multiple multi-run innings.

The Redbirds will be back in action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday as Western Illinois comes to Duffy Bass Field for the first home game of the season.
