(CNN) — La tormenta subtropical Theta se formó en el noreste del Océano Atlántico, lo que hace a 2020 la temporada de huracanes más activa registrada con 29 tormentas con nombre. Junto con Eta, son también las dos últimas tormentas con nombre que han estado en el Atlántico simultáneamente desde 1932.
No hay alertas ni advertencias ya que Theta viaja hacia el este y permanecerá en aguas abiertas antes de disiparse.

En lo que es la segunda vez registrada en la historia, el Centro Nacional de Huracanes (NHC, por sus siglas en inglés) tiene que usar el alfabeto griego para designar los nombres de tormenta adicionales.
En 2005, el NHC tuvo que usar seis letras del alfabeto griego para dar cuenta del número récord de ciclones. Cuatro de esos sistemas alcanzaron la fuerza de tormenta tropical (Alpha, Gamma, Delta y Zeta), mientras que los otros dos alcanzaron la fuerza de huracán (Beta y Epsilon). El NHC no usa las letras Q, U, X, Y y Z porque no hay suficientes nombres para llenar esas letras.
