On Saturday around 1:40 p.m. the Normal Fire Department received a call of a fire at the Sugar Creek Apartments near Linden Street and Vernon Avenue. Bloomington Fire crews were also assisting at the scene.
The Normal Fire Department investigation team has concluded that the fire heavily damaged or destroyed 12 of the Sugar Creek Apartments located at 606 S. Linden St.
Fire investigators have determined the cause of the fire was related to repair work that was being done inside a lower-level apartment.
They concluded the start of the fire to be accidental. The fire spread inside the walls and void spaces before extending into the attic before the fire department arrived to the apartments.
Insurance adjusters are working with the owners of the building and have yet to determine a full damage estimate.
