(CNN) — Las fronteras de Uruguay se cerrarán durante el verano como parte de un esfuerzo para detener la propagación del covid-19, anunció el presidente Luis Lacalle Pou durante una conferencia de prensa el jueves.

“Será un verano restringido”, dijo, “las fronteras estarán básicamente cerradas, con excepciones que ya se conocen y quizás algunas más”. La temporada de verano en Uruguay comienza en diciembre y termina en marzo.

El presidente también dijo que las clases presenciales en la ciudad Rivera se suspenderán por 15 días.

“Porque hoy hay muchos casos, o varios casos, en el [sector] educativo, hemos decidido suspender las clases presenciales por dos semanas”, dijo.

Además, el presidente dijo que se harán cumplir las medidas de seguridad pública e instó al público a evitar grandes reuniones y fiestas. «Seremos muy estrictos en lo que respecta al tema de las fiestas», dijo.

“Si Uruguay está casi en la plenitud de sus libertades en reuniones, economía, trabajo y cultura es porque ha habido una libertad responsable. Se complica, y ahora hay un empujón global y regional, «añadió.

Uruguay reportó 2.701 casos confirmados de Covid-19 y 53 muertes hasta el viernes por la mañana.
